Who We Are

Mt. Olive is a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.  We hold true and respond to the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and Sacraments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.

We accept and teach Bible-based teachings that can be summarized in three short phrases: Grace alone,  Faith alone, Scripture alone.

Grace alone: God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.

Faith alone:  By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.

Scripture alone: The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.

Our Worship Service is a divine  liturgical setting.  The rhythm of our service is Sacrificial and Sacramental.  In the Sacrificial sense, we speak to God through confession, songs and prayers. In the Sacramental sense, by the power of the Holy Spirit, God Speaks to us through the readings of the Old Testament, Epistle and Gospel. He also speaks to us with the Sermon and Holy Communion on a weekly basis.  Those who have been united in baptism of the Triune God are welcomed by Christ to share His Body and Blood.

A New Membership Class is offered on a monthly basis.  We encourage you to attend this class lead by the Pastor and usually lasts for an hour a week.  This is an excellent opportunity to meet others while you study the basic’s of Christian faith as understood by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.  Many Life-Long Members attend this class to refresh themselves and to meet new members!  A joyful time together indeed.

Bible Study on Sundays is offered from 9:15 to 10:15 am.  Mt. Olive is striving to offer several classes including three adult classes and several children classes weekly. There are also Mid-week classes offered.  Check with the Church office to see what is happening with our education program.  Chance are, there will be a class that will suit you and your family’s  spiritual needs!

Lenten Services are offered during the season of lent.  We celebrate Ash Wednesday and meet weekly during the season.  Dinners are usually provided to help those who’s schedules permit very little time. This is another fine way to meet fellow members at Church.

The Children’s Christmas Program is offered to the whole congregation by the Children's Education ministry.  This event is well planned and delightful.  Come watch the children demonstrate their faith in Christ as they partake in a play which shares the birth of Christ based on the Gospel of Luke!

The Preteen Youth meet regularly.  They participate in many activities which reach out to the community. They have Bible Study and many functions that allow them time to grow together in Christ.

The High School Youth Group Meet regularly as well.  They are actively involved in many different types of ministry outreach programs. In the past they have traveled to LCMS Youth Conventions and Ski Trips.

Volley Ball is a seasonal sport offered for all ages.  Currently there are two families who provide facilities for volley ball in their back yards.  This is an exciting time for those who like the sport!  Event times are listed on the Calendar when they are available.

Men’s Bible Breakfast Club meets once a month. Usually on a Saturday morning.  A perfect time to get out  and meet the guys at Mt. Olive!   Pastor Sizemore provides devotions and bible study for them.

Women’s Circles Essie Sons and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) each meet on a monthly basis.  They provide many outreach programs to the shut-ins and elderly.  They also provide meals and many other services to the needy.

The Adult Choir meets regularly on Sunday Evenings.  This is the club to join!  They provide joyful song to our service and when their season is ended, they have a celebration meal and gathering together.  Word is, this is a blowout time complete with picnic and water sports type fun.  They also have the best seat in the house and are always looking for more singers!

The Hand Bell Choir provides many beautiful pre-service melodies which help relax the congregation before a service.
